Description
The Corral de Merlín is located off La Jara beach. One of the many fish pens to be found distributed along the Cádiz coastline, artificial enclosures of ostionera stone upon the intertidal rocky zone of the beach. It is a traditional way to catch fish, whose origins date back to Roman times.
The first documents making reference to the Corral de Merlín date from 1755, the year Lisbon was rebuilt after the earthquake.
The pens are included in the General Catalogue of Andalusian Historical Heritage Sites.
